Pre-trip information
Sometimes it’s good to keep track of all the amazing wildlife you will be seeing on your trip. This downloadable wildlife check list for the plants, animals and birds of Galapagos together with a complete bird check list for Ecuador (including an amazing 132 species of hummingbirds) will help you do just that.
Quito
You will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel in Quito for the night.
Chimborazo
Today you visit the Chimborazo – Ecuador’s highest volcano at 6310 meters – and whose summit if is the highest point on Earth, when measured from the centre of the planet, since it is located on the equatorial line. A non-active volcano that was considered sacred and worshiped by the Puruhaes culture, with many explorers like Humboldt, Simon Bolivar and Whimper who have visited and climbed this astonishing mountain. You will be pleased to hear you won’t be attempting to climb this, but rather soak up the spectacular scenery of paramo and volcanoes and wildness. You will have lunch at the ‘Estrella del Chimborazo’ (the star of Chimborazo) – named after a species of hummingbird endemic to the paramo, and if you are very lucky you may spot one of these tiny birds flitting around the place you have lunch. Overnight Riobamba (B,L)

There isn’t really a right answer to this question! Galapagos and Ecuador are year round destinations thanks to their location on the equator. In Galapagos each month has its own special highlights. Hopefully this guide to the climate and wildlife activity in the islands can help you choose.
For this trip when you spend a lot of time in the Andes, it is best aim for months with the highest chances of sunshine and clear blue skies in this region (though nothing is ever fully predictable with the weather!) April through October time is typically a good time to go. Get in touch and let us know what the key priorities are for your Ecuador and Galapagos vacation and we will be able to help guide you for the best time for your trip.
